So far, all of the posts to this journal have been informative to the group at large.  At least I hope they have been informative.  I would like to shake things up a bit and ask everyone a question:

Why do you want to be a part of this team?

For me this is my first attempt at making a short film and of course my first entry in to a film festival/competition.  For some time now I've wanted to make films.  Not necessarily films I guess, but something in the video arena. I've always been a fan of short stories, so making short films seems like a natural fit to me.  There's just something great about a story that says everything it needs to say in a short amount of time. Of course, its also easier to put together a shorter project when you have limited budget and time.

I think the main reason I haven't really done a lot of video work to date, excluding some rather silly videos I've put together for work, is a lack of urgency/motivation. If left to my own devices I don't think I would ever get one of these things made. Now give me only 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a film and I'm gonna find a way to get it done.  All of those silly films for work were on a deadline, and almost everyone of them was due in a week or less - Pete's farewell video was finished over the course of a weekend with a crew of two people.  This project seems like the next logical step.

One other benefit of our little project here is that I get to see a bunch of people in action as we put this film together, essentially auditioning them for future work. This won't be my last project so why not take advantage of all its benefits. :D

If you or anyone you know has some abilities in the area of graphic design I am looking for someone to create a shiny new logo for our team.  I will leave the concept up to you as I don't want to hinder the creative process.  Once I have some finished pieces to look at I may make suggestions, but I am happy to get just about anything at this point.

Welcome to Hydrochloric Candy!

What is Hydrochloric Candy?
Hydrochloric Candy is a team participating in the 2008 Seattle 48 Hour Film Project.

What is the 48 Hour Film Project?
Seriously, are you too lazy to click on that link? Are you??

Where did the name come from?
Our name was picked from a list of potential names by a democratic vote. It would have lost out to another name, but we didn't count the votes of anyone from Florida :P The winning name was contributed by Mileni D'Alberti.

Can anyone join?
Yes and No. The community is open to members of the team itself and anyone interested in following our progress down this strange road. I am still looking for people interested in joining the team, but many of the positions have been filled, especially in the technical areas, but I am happy to talk to anyone interested in joining about how they could help.

What does a gig like this pay?
Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Squat... you get the idea... I hope. The rules of the competition prevent me from paying anyone for their services.  The team must be made up of nothing but volunteers.

How many people do you have on your team?

We are currently staffed at around 30 members.  There may be a need for more, there may be a need for less.  Due to the nature of the project it is difficult to say what the appropriate number of members should be.  I believe it will be better to have more than less.?

Why Livejournal? Why not something like MySpace or Facebook?

Livejournal has a feature set that is much more closely aligned with the goals of this project. I want to update the team about things that are happening on a regular basis and also allow them to post their questions/thoughts/ramblings.  MySpace and Facebook both lack really good blogging tools.  Also, if I had to deal with 300 invitations to join someones game/group/widget or even a single notification that someone just bought me as their pet I would have some sort of mental breakdown.

I have a question.
Really?  Because that wasn't a question - it was a statement.  If you really have a question go ahead and ask me.  I have plenty of answers (though I do not make any promises regarding their accuracy).

I have a project.  Can I hire you?
Perhaps. Leave me your contact info and we can talk, though I doubt I will be starting any new projects until this one is over.

You suck!
I can also walk and talk at the same time.  It's all part of my highly developed skill set.
